[Movies of the Month] June

Jurassic World – Great addition to the series, an action-packed ride from the first roar to the last – read my full review here. ★★★★

Extraordinary Measures
– An inspiring, intense plot supported by strong acting and good pacing. ★★★★
Accepted – Average American teenager comedy that has enjoyable moments but is largely uninspiring. ★★½
Pacific Rim – Action-packed and full of interesting ideas, it’s unfortunately let down by weak or overacted performances from some actors. ★★★½
Ex Machina – Immersive and haunting, this sci fi-thriller questions morality in a big way, leaving you thinking about the film for a long time after. ★★★★
Kingsman: The Secret Service – Hugely entertaining, Firth and Egerton are a winning pair putting a new spin on the genre. ★★★★
Thank You for Smoking – Thought-provoking and interestingly
shot, Eckhart was the perfect casting choice for a man with the gift of the gab. ★★★★
Kissing Jessica Stein – A solid drama that explores sexuality and its affect on yourself and those around you. ★★★★
Big Hero 6 – Enjoyable kids flick that merges together several themes to create a junior version of the next generation of superheros. ★★★½
Serial Mom – Kathleen Turner shines as the Stepford Wife with a killer attitude but it’s let down by being too predictable with not enough drama to keep your attention. ★★½
Instinct – Multiple themes are explored in this drama, with strong performances from Cuba Gooding Jr and Antony Hopkins. However, it is melodramatic in parts and is poorly paced. ★★★½

Jaws – A masterclass in what makes a solid thriller. ★★★★★
Kevin and Perry Go Large – Enfield and Burke perfectly represent a whole generation in this British comedy classic. ★★★★
The First Wives Club – The performances of the leads (Hawn, Midler and Keaton) are what these stars are for, as the plot is let down in parts by being too fanciful. ★★★★
Grabbers – Fun Irish-British dark comedy that boasts good CGI and lots of laughs. ★★★½
