he 36th Toronto International Film Festival took place this year from the 8th to the 18th of September.
The Cadillac People’s Choice Award, voted on by Festival audiences, was awarded to Nadine Labaki’s Where Do We Go Now?
According to TIFF, the film tells the heartwarming tale of a group of women’s determination to protect their isolated, mine-encircled community from the pervasive and divisive outside forces that threaten to destroy it from within.
The film has been chosen as Lebanon’s 2011 entry in the best foreign language film category for the Academy Awards.
“We have some very, very high-profile films here at the festival and ones that a lot of people are talking about and I’m sure will go on to awards,” said festival director, Piers Handling. “But Nadine’s film obviously connected with the public in a significant way because it was a clear, clear winner.”
Interesting, never heard of that movie. Maybe it will go on to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Film and we will learn more about it 😀
