Happy belated birthday to the following May babies: John Rhys-Davies, Richard E Grant, George Clooney, Robert Pattinson, Zoe Wanamaker, Cate Blanchett, Pierce Brosnan, James Broadbent, John C Reilly, Rupert Everett, Clint Eastwood and Colin Farrell.
Today – 27th May – is the 89th birthday of Christopher Frank Carandini Lee.
Courtesy of IMDb, Lee was born in Belgravia, London. After attending Wellington College, Lee served in the RAF and intelligence services during WWII.
Lee’s film debut was in 1948’s Corridor of Mirrors – since then he has appeared in over 250 films. In 2011, he was awarded the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award “in recognition of outstanding achievement in the art forms of the moving image”.
With his booming voice and stature, Lee initially portrayed villains, the most famous of which being Count Dracula in the Hammer Horror series of films.
Other notable roles include Lord Summerisle in The Wicker Man, Francisco Scaramanga in The Man with the Golden Gun, Count Dooku in Star Wars and Saruman in The Lord of the Rings.
He will next be seen in Hugo Cabret and The Hobbit: Part 1 and Part 2.
- One of my favourite actors, Lee would definitely be invited to my ‘fantasy dinner party‘
