Last Thursday, 10th February, the cast of The Hobbit were together for their first official press conference in New Zealand. Sadly, Peter Jackson was not available to make it as he was under ‘health house arrest’. Jackson was hospitalised last month with a perforated ulcer. He was discharged last week and has been resting at home.
Stuff.co.nz reported that Martin Freeman was “chuffed” at being cast as Bilbo Baggins and that New Zealand cast members Mark Hadlow (Dori) and Jed Brophy (Nori) are enjoying working with the overseas stars, with Brophy describing them as “really good blokes”.
Filming of The Hobbit will begin on Monday 21st March at Stone Street Studios in Miramar, Wellington. Location shooting will start around New Zealand, including the rebuilt Hobbiton in Matamata.
