Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Thor Odinson.
I am a big fan of Marvel Comics and it’s great to see another of the less known characters having their turn in the spotlight.
After consulting my Marvel Encyclopedia it’s surprising to see just how many Marvel characters have had their own feature film. It’s far more than you think.
The big names have had their own films – the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men, the Hulk and Iron Man – and some of the lesser known characters have had their turn too – Howard the Duck, the Punisher, Ghost Rider, Blade, Daredevil, Elektra.
And, in May 2011, Thor is having his go.
A brief biography, courtesy of Marvel.com, explains that Thor is, of course, the Norse God of Thunder and the son of Odin. His human alias is Donald Blake, a doctor and surgeon who is in love with a nurse, Jane Foster. Odin expelled Thor from Asgard after he grew headstrong and proud. Marvel explains: “On one occasion, Thor broke a truce between the Asgardians and their enemies, the brutal Frost Giants, nearly starting a war.”
**Thor is going to be released in May 2011.
**The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Natlie Portman as Jane Foster.
