This weekend, 20th-21st November, Winter Memorabilia was held at the NEC in Birmingham.
To sum it up, if you like films – think sci fi, fantasy and horror – and cult television shows then you’ll enjoy Memorabilia. Dubbed the ‘ultimate collectors’ show’ by organizers the MCM Expo Group, about 40 stands filled the hall and sold everything from comic books to full-size Iron Man models.
When I was there I had my photo taken with Darth Vader, and saw a range of film favourites from R2D2 to Freddy Krueger. I saw a few groups of Jedi and a lone Harley Quinn admiring the stands. There were quite a few (David Tennant) Doctor Whos running around, too.
I spoke to some friendly chaps from Hollywood Heroes who are a costuming club/volunteer fundraisers. Coming face to face with Freddy Krueger, Pinhead and Leatherface was quite scary, though! The team make special appearances at events dressed as your favourite hero or villian and raise money for charity.
As well as stands, there are also signing locations dotted around the hall. Angel Coulby and Rupert Young from the BBC’s Merlin were on site on the 20th and were joined by actors from The Sarah Jane Chronicles.
Rather bizarrely, several sporting stars were present too including Ian Wright and Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. A strange combination if you ask me but if it works, then why not!
