Drum roll please We have our Bilbo!
Peter Jackson has announced that Martin Freeman will be playing Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming adaptation of The Hobbit.
In an official statement released by Jackson, Freeman was described as “intelligent, funny, surprising and brave – exactly like Bilbo.”
I must admit that I’m not sure about this decision. Sure, Freeman has transcended from TV to film actor, but to me he isn’t leading actor material, especially for a film that fans, and the industry, have been waiting a long time for.
He seems to have been a bit typecast – the British guy who’s nice but nothing special.
The casting in the Lord of the Rings trilogy was spot on so I will put my trust in Peter Jackson that he has made the right call.
